Between the present and the future

A Successful First Half of the Year

The first months of 2024 have been very exciting for our winery, as Baglio Diar wines have received prestigious awards in some of the most important international wine competitions.

Behind these achievements, we find the story and passion of the Di Girolamo family, who have always pursued a production philosophy focused on creating wines that are an authentic expression of the territory.

Our NEDDA Nero d’Avola 2022 was awarded the Gold Medal at the Berliner Wine Trophy, one of the most important wine competitions in Germany. This rich and full-bodied red wine has aromas of black cherry, blackberry, vanilla, and cloves, with elegant tannins and a medium body.

FANTASIA Zibibbo 2023 stood out in every competition. It received the Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the Berliner Wine Trophy, and Mundus Vini, as well as the Silver Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards. An aromatic and intense white wine, it presents notes of citrus, grapefruit, and eucalyptus.

VELATA Perricone 2022 was our winning bet. This first vintage earned the Silver Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards and the Gold Medal at both the Berliner Wine Trophy and Mundus Vini. It is a bold red wine with notes of blackberry, leather, and cocoa powder, featuring pronounced acidity and spicy hints of coffee.

SELENE Grillo 2023 continues to shine on prestigious stages. As the winner of the Silver Medal at Mundus Vini, it is a wine with a pale yellow colour and delightful aromas of tropical fruits, such as yellow melon and pineapple.

The First Steps of a New Vintage

While the first months of the year have been positive in terms of awards, work in the vineyard has never stopped.
The 2024 Sicilian harvest will be remembered as one of the most unique in recent years, not only for its early start but also for its challenges. Due to high temperatures, which accelerated the ripening of the grapes, the harvest began earlier than usual.
We experienced a warm spring and a winter with very little rainfall (only 250 mm, compared to the annual average of 500-600 mm).
This has been a complex harvest, with our winemakers involved in both harvesting and analyzing the ripening stages to preserve the quality and aromatic complexity of the grapes.
From a production perspective, we have seen a decrease in the quantity of grapes harvested compared to 2023, but we can confirm the very high quality of our grapes.

This is why Baglio Diar looks ahead with optimism to future activities in the winery.
